I tried to look through this site, but it seems the comments regarding health insurance are a bit dated, has the situation improved or been updated? I am not a permanent resident here (status wise), I still travel back and forth to the US, however, I stay here beyond the 30 days that any US insurers will cover me (90 days in Prague / 30 days in US). I work via the computer, consulting in the US, so no employer here in CZ. Any thought or recommendations would be appreciated!
I am in similar situation and have 'self-paid' health insurance with http://www.vzp.cz it is valid in European Union also. About 1.000 Kc/month. However, there is one problem and that is you have to report your departure (if you don't want to continue paying when you are away from CR) and can join again after 6 months.
but is this any good, or has it improved - it seems comments from last year was that it really didn't cover anything?? thanks!
There are other insurance companies. Health insurance I have covers all the same as for CR citizens. I didn't notice any difference. But I am CR citizen, so I hope that others will see your post and give their opinion.
I just found out that my Health insurance bluecross blue shield covers me no matter how long i stay in CR. i don't know if i would cover a non US resedant but i am going to live for 4 mounths in CR and they said that i can stay as long as i want and i will be coverd. i don't know if this helps you but any one who is travleing from US to CR BCBS is a good way to go!
The big question is whether the czech hospitals would accept your bluecross insurance. They can force you to pay them in cash and then you will need to ask bluecross to refund you the money. On the contrary all czech hospitals(with few exceptions) have contract with VZP and will not risk to lose it by taking cash from you.
