Can anyone recommend a good boat trip for sightseeing? I am taking a group of people around and am looking for a well run trip which is good value? Are there any night party boats?
This is website for Prague, but there are others you have to search for. What comes to my mind is Bata canal, which I hear is very nice/interesting. http://www.paroplavba.cz/index_en.php
bibi, We booked a dinner river cruise through the link on this site. It was a great value, with good food, decent entertainment, and good scenery. We were on the Sumava. I will warn you that the boat does not travel a great disctance, rather it cruises in circles a short distance up and down the river. The hardest part was getting to the right dock to get on. Be very clear about which boat the information office is sending you to, or you'll end up going in circles before you board the boat.
Cindy, if you booked the dinner cruise shown here, then the above situation only happens in exceptional cases, such as when there is a high water level (like what we had in the first three weeks of April), unusual traffic on the river or a problem with the locks. Otherwise the boats travel approximately between the Štefánikův Bridge in the center of Prague and Barrandovský Bridge, which is quite a bit past the Vyšehrad Castle, so they cover a nice distance on the river. Dana
Dana, Yep, that's the cruise we took. We must have gone on a day with a much shortened route. We started from the dock under Cechuv Bridge and went south to the Charles Bridge and then turned around and went north to the Stefanickuv Bridge. We went in circles on that same route several times and even just drifted at a near stop for several minutes at a time. There was one man (he spoke English, but I wasn't American, I'm glad to say) who was obviously expecting a longer route and caused quite a scene on the boat complaining. It was surprising to us that we only went such a short distance, but what the heck. The food was good and the music was passable.
I do have to point out that boats at the website I wrote of previously are not in such a convenient location as those listed by Dana. Those who are in Prague just for short visit would be better to go by Dana's advice as location of dock is much easier to find.
Cindy, I contacted the boat company about the cruise you took and they offered a partial refund to compensate for the fact that the boat did not follow its normal route. I'm sorry it happened. I will be in touch with you by email. Dana
Now that's getting the extra mile. Thanks Dana, I already received a message regarding the partial refund. It does pay to use the companies recommended through this site.
Hi, We are travelling to Prague in November and would like to book a cruise. However the link mentioned says it is not taking any bookings at this time. Can anyone advise me how I can book please? Also we are planning on being picked up and returned to the airport by the Prague Shuttle service, does anyone know if they are any good? :?
Hi mick mock, We are in the process of updating our river cruise offering and we're unable to accept bookings right now. Our new offering should be up soon, so please try to check back in a week or so. I suggest you post the above question as a new topic with the subject "Prague Shuttle Service" or "Prague Airport Transfer" to make sure that people see your question and can answer it. The current topic is titled "boat trips" and people won't automatically know that it also includes a question about Prague airport transfers. Dana MyCZ
