Moving to Prague

Hi I was just wondering if people who have done this can give me advice or just give me some suggestions/help/extra info etc.

I am 21 and currently living in the UK at the moment (so anyone from the UK who has moved to Prague would be an extra bonus as they could tell me how it went and how they did it :) ). I intend on going to Prague to work.

To be honest I haven't a clue where to start. I have been looking for jobs on expats.cz and have applied to a few of them. Now say it all goes good and I find a job then thats great, but, it is the accommodation side that is getting me. See I am currently living with my parents, I have done all my life. So what I am saying is that because I hae never looked for a roof over my head before in my life I do not want to get ripped off etc. Do you know what I mean? It seems very daunting looking for a home and bare in mind it is another country I am moving to.

The latter of the above may seem negative but I really want to do this. It would be a very good experience to live and work in another country by myself. Plus Prague seems like a very nice place in which to do it in.

When I get to Prague I think I will have enough money to cover the first month of rent. Which is helpful.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mark

Your first mistake is looking for ANYTHING on expats.cz
You know, the international portal ( its not even national, 99 % of posts are from Prague) and if the contention is that members are from all over the world, then EVERY site in the world is international
SERVING/GIVING back to the expat community (as long as it lines his pockets with money). Half the posts are fake from the two admins...

What do you think you will get if you look for work in Germany on an English only site? Do you want to come here to stay in a closet with other English only folks? I doubt it...when in Rome, do like the Romans. Use their sites for work, their sites to post things to sell. Instead of targeting 20K poor backpackers, you will target 10 million nationals and actually acclimate into the society!
Expats is the ONLY place you can find a 2+1 for 22k kc a month, but no commision! Your ignorance of the country will be exploited by using a site like that, to their profit....

    seznam.cz is a good place to start, note sprace...type in English and start the correct way :}

I have just returned from Prague. I went to see what it was like. I stayed on Wenceslas Square and although it was very busy I enjoyed it. It seems relatively cheap in Prague which is a plus.

Well about the jobs, I guess I am pretty limited as I can only speak English. I had an interview at icon-cc, but when I went to find the place I got lost. Therefore I didnt have an interview there :(. So really I do not know when I am moving there, I would like to though. It is just finding a job and accomodation, I don't know where to look.

You could try applying for that Da Vinci program which offers a work placement in Europe including Prague. Its only for 12 weeks but you might get offered a permanent job and can look for another while you are there.

    Website is www.ets-lichfield.com

Not sure if work placements will match whatever you are looking for though. I'm thinking of doing something similar but I'm not sure about this year. You should get some basic language training as well if you are successful btw.

Yeah I realise that, worth a look though isn't it? nothing to lose. :)

I will contact the site and tell them about my situation. See what they say.
