SLO is one of the nicest places in California. I lived there for seven years, although it was a much smaller town then - more of a cowboy town.
Probably. I can't afford to live here! San Francisco is more expensive than LA for renting an apartment. SLO is not so bad because it is a college town and the students are spread out all over town, not just in one inexpensive neighborhood. Santa Barbara (between SLO and LA) used to be a funky affordable town, but now it is very expensive by California terms. In the valley it is inexpensive, but nobody really wants to live there - it's all farm land and ranches. New York City is fairly expensive too, but not the whole state of New York.
