I would be so grateful if anyone can help me with a few ticket/pass questions!

    1. Can 3 day passes be bought from the airport? If so, where?
    2. Can they be used on buses from the airport into Prague city? and the metro too?
    3. How do you validate them? We are planning on taking bus 119 from the airport, hopefully using the 3 day pass (if it is valid on buses) so can they be validated on the bus? How does this work?
    4. Do you need to validate every single time you get on bus/metro/tram? or do you have to show them to bus driver etc?

I'm sorry for all the q's but things like this concern me lol!

    Many thanks in advance
    :D

    Hi and welcome!

Take a look at Prague Guide/How to get around/Transportation above and do a search of the boards - many answers.

    a few short answers:

    1. not sure but probably
    2. yes
    3. little box on the bus/tram/metro - put your ticket in and it will be stamped (just watch what everyone else does)
    4. no - just once. keep it with you, the transportation cops may stop you and ask to see it. if they do, smile, show them the ticket, and you'll be on your way in about 20 seconds.

    Have a great trip.

The passes only need to be stamped/validated on your first trip. And then keep the pass with you at all times when riding the trams, busses and metro. I kept mine in my wallet. I had a 15-day pass and was only asked by a transportation cop once to see it. He asked me in Czech to see my ticket and then thrust his badge in my face. He was in plain clothes and looked like he came right out of a 70s detective flic. Long sideburns, retro haircut, and a leather coat. It was two seconds of my trip that I wish I could have filmed.

The passes don't work for trips on outlying systems going to the villages outside the city - but tickets are very inexpensive.

That's good to know kimba. Did they ask in English afterwards? Otherwise, I wouldn't know what's going on (I know about valadating tickets and the transpo police) or who this guy is up in my face. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to figure it out, but it would be an interesting first 10 - 15 seconds. The plain clothes would throw me off as I would suspect they'd be in uni, but I guess it makes sense not to always show your hand before the surprise attack.

They will ask you in Czech first - if your eyes glaze over they will say "Ticket, please". If you have a valid one, no problem, if you don't,
    you'll get lots of attitude.

I don't speak Czech and I was just looking out the window, so he put his badge at the end of my nose and I understood what he wanted. They all have badges, like detective badges in a little leather wallet that they can take out of their pocket and flash at you. I think they wear plain clothes so they take people by surprise.

3 day passes can be purchased from teh sirport. Come out of arrivals and turn right towards the kiosks there is one where you can purchase the passes from.

I went last year when they were on high alert everyone at the Zlicin station was asked for travel passes/tickets; previous 2 years I have been I did not get asked once.
