    Hello,
I will be coming to the Czech Republic for the first time at the end of May. I have some questions, and I was wondering if anyone here could help me.

    1. What is there to see and do? What are the important sites a visitor should not miss? What are the secret gems a visitor should see but most miss?

    2. What is crime like?

    3. Czech beer is supposed to be the best. What is the best Czech beer for the money? And how much should I expect to pay?

    4. Are there good places for meeting women? For dancing, conversation

    5. I don’t speak any Czech, is this a problem? What should I learn? Do people there speak English?

    6. How easy is it to get around the city? What is the public transportation system like? Are the taxicabs reliable?

    Thank you in advance,
    T Welles

#1. There are SO many things to see in Prague and the surrounding hoods. I think it would be best if you tell us what you like. history. Architecture. Nature. Beer Gardens :). Etc.

#2. I've heard the warnings of pick pockets, but I had no issues. Just mind your goodies.

#3. I am a major beer snob. CZ has some wonderful beers. I personally flip flop between CZ and German beers because I am partial to wheat beers. The prices can vary, but if you stick your head in any local establishment and get an idea of pricing, you will be much happier. There are MANY local spots that only charge about $1.10 a beer. Then again, the tourist traps can cost you $5. Do you like lights or darks? Light beers are NOT what you may associate with American Lite beers. It's just that it's golden in color. That's all. No Lite that has less calories or whatever. That's pretty much an American thing. I, and i am sure many others here can run off a long list of favs.

#4. Can't help you there. I tell you one thing. I have always been partially to E European women, especially their eyes.

#5. There are plenty of English speaking places. That, in my opinion, should be the least of your worries unless you plan on going way outside of the major cities.

#6. The public transportation system is great, and cheap. Get a 3 day pass or whatever you need for your stay. GET IT VALIDATED FIRST!

Overall, Prague is one wickedly cool city in my opinion. It will always be tops on my list of European cities and I hope you come away feeling the same. If you are into beers like I am, let me know and I will turn you on to some really great local pubs.

Besides exploring this website (look at the Trip Planner, Prague Guide, etc. links above), be sure to follow the Language link. Here you'll find many helpful phrases with sound files. Knowing some basics (hello, please, thank you, beer :D ) can get you a long way.

Have a wonderful time and plan to take a lot of pictures. You'll love it!
