First of all, I want to thank everyone who has been helping translate on this site, it has helped me far more than any other studies I have done trying to learn this language. I have gone back 3 years in the posts and written down almost everything to help me make sense of the grammar and it is indeed producing results. I have only been studying for 4 months but I am quickly picking it up and I again want to thank all the help here. I am returning to Prague to live and I want to send a message to a female friend: "Hey Lenka, I'm moving back to Prague August 1st, I know its been tough being apart for so long and things aren't quite the same but I would love to see you when I am settled in. I almost translated it all, but finally I saw the "as a friend" part and nothing from what I wrote before didn't longer maked sense. So sorry, but I cannot translate this text properly, because I see more in it than just friendship in what you wrote. Sorry, but I let anyone else try.

It is difficult to translate not knowing the real context (previous relation etc.), the letter is very personal. 8)

It is exactly the place where I didn't know what to do when I started to translate second "just a friends"-way time.
This might be really difficult to translate and it could be anyways misunderstood by the girl. Of course we do not know here anything about your previous relationships with Lenka, so it might be perfectly o.k. for her. But I thought it might be good to mention, that in Czech Republic, we don´t really tell our friends that "we love them". Especially not to friends of other gender - as a girl would not say to a male friend that she loves him (unless she really means it). And if she means it, of course she does not see the guy as a friend.. Well, it is hard to explain, but I have the feeling, that in US maybe you are more used to tell people that you "love them", when in fact you just are happy to see them or you are only friends? In CR, to tell somebody that you "love him" means serious business (unless you are cheater) and it is seen and understood as deep affection and love for a person, not just friendship. What we tell friends is more like - it will be great to see you again, I am happy to see you, looking forward to see you.. Just thoughts.
In the States, we do tell friends we love them but it has to be a close friend. It has to be a person you really love and care about like you would love and care about your brother or sister.
Thank you for that point, it is true and thats how our relationship is right now, we had a good past, but distance changed it and now I care for her as a very close friend and thats how I prefer it to be, I care for her a lot but only in the sense that she is happy and healthy, no matter what the circumstances, so I think the translation did its justice.
