Hi guys, I have some more questions...would appreciate if someone could answer them:

    1) Do the airports have an airbus facility which directly drop the passenger at his/her final destination?

    2) How much do the pre-paid cards generally cost? And is it possible to get a monthly card which can be used to call from the public phones?

    3) Is there any differentiation in Prague with the subway (or tube or whatever) as in how many lines (if any) are there?

    4) What's the cheapest transport? subway or buses? (I now know taxis are awefully expenisve)

    5) How far is the Airport from Praha 2? How long would it approximately take? (I would be using the cab for this one trip)

    Thanks a lot guys... :D

    1. Generally, no. You can pre-arrange a pickup from the airport through various sources, however. AAA Taxi is a safe bet too, don't take any of the rogue cabs that may be at the airport - they will probably charge you too much. See the link in number 5 below.

    2. Don't know but you can get long duration cards for phones - might be a better idea to just buy a prepaid cell phone - I found public phones to be a pain in the butt. See
    http://www.myczechrepublic.com/basics/t ... tions.html

    3. Metro has three intersecting lines (A, B, and C) - take a look at
    http://www.myczechrepublic.com/prague/prague_metro.html on this site

    4. Doesn't matter - buy a long duration ticket good for unlimited use on Metro, Trams, and Buses see
    http://www.myczechrepublic.com/prague/t ... fares.html

    5. About 15 km, depending on traffic, it should take about half hour to 45 minutes in a cab. For more details see

When using a pass on a tram or a train, be sure to validate it the first time you use it, BUT do NOT validate it again. If you are caught with an unvalidated ticket, the police will assume it is invalid and you will have to pay what amounts to $25.00 (500 crowns) on the spot or you will be carted off to jail. If you validate (or stamp) the same ticket more than one time, this makes the first time stamp illegible, and your pass will also be invalid, resulting in the same fine.

The pass is good for both the metro and the trams. It can be validated on either a tram or at a turnstyle at the station.

Don't get caught with out a valid pass.

Definitely find out which trams run closest to where you will be living. If you will be living at the Kolej for Charles University (in Praha 6), trams 22 and 23 will take you to most of the places you want to go in the city center and in Nove Mesto.

By the way, the warning to take only AAA cabs is a valid one. Do not to expect to pay more than 450 -500 crowns to the center from the airport. A hired car is a bit more, but even more reliable.

If you don't arrive with Czech crowns on hand, do not exchange for more than 600 crowns at the airport. The best exchange rate will be found at bank ATM's. Because both your bank and the Prague bank will charge fees for this service, it is best to get the largest sum you are comfortable carrying as infrequently as possible.

Have a great time. Prague is an empress of a city.

    Hi

I have a question about this, too.

I'm buying a 15-days pass, how do I validate it?
Do I validate it only in the first journey or do I have do it every time I get into transportation?

    Thanks.

Only first time. Then it's validated up to 15 days from stamp from stamping machine (yellow boxes in trams/buses/metro).

AAAtaxi, you can look approximate price and other information on their website, but note, that there is additional "waiting time" which is waiting for green light etc. which adds a bit to your final bill.
