Czech Nursery Rhyme

I have a question about pronunciation and translation. It's kind of everything.
When I was young my grandmother used to do this thing where she would "pet" my face and say this poem or nursery rhyme, and then she would pat it.
Unfortunatly she is getting alzyhmers and doesn't really remember it all that well. However I did get what seems to be all of it. I wrote it down finetically, and this is what I got.

Mahlah Kochechka Debyoulah Louzku Chepabalah Nepa bady nepa bady nepa bady

I recall her saying something about it being about a bad cat or something like that. It still feels like there is more to it.

If anyone can help me figure out what it is that would be wonderful.

unfortunatelly no idea about the rest :-(

 

- could be: malá kočička udělala loužičku :lol: :lol:

But I never heard a nursery rhyme like this. Can You remember more then this few words?

 

The problem is that I cannot figure out the pronunciation

 

Me neither. I have been also trying to find a similar poem or nursery rhyme on inet- without avail.

But don't give up!!! Is here some typical Czech grandma??? We need one 8)

 

- "chepabala" can be "nepapala" or in childish talk "něpapala"?

- "nepa bady" perhaps "bude hlady" which can be "will be hungry"?

So, my theory:

"Malá kočenka udělala loužku, něpapala, bude hlady, bude hlady"
(Little kitten made a spill, did not eat, will be hungry, will be hungry)

or maybe "nepa" in "nepa bady" are first two syllables of the word "nepapala"

 

The begining is evidently “Malá kočička…” (= a little cat), but the rest is abstruse.

My first guess for the “Nepa bady nepa bady nepa bady” was “Ну, погоди; Ну, погоди; Ну, погоди”, for example. :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Zdenek, could you please elaborate on your way of “phonetic” notation? I tried to read it from the English point of view, but I’m somehow lost. Are you sure of the borders of individual words?

Here you could identify some Czech sounds you are not familiar with.

BTW, your nick is also confused, since “Zdenek” is a male first name and “Čermáková” is a female surname.

I didn't notice I forgot the a until it was too late! :shock:

 

debyoula - neměla? nemyla? (from someone who has cold)
lugeku - lužku...?

čépábulá né pabady - tried different segmentation, still no idea

Perhaps the pronunciation is distorted as your grandma might have imitated the childish talk

 

debyoula lugeku

do běla líčka?
doběhla lišku?

Who knows?

 

"doběhla lišku" - sounds promising

 

Malá kočička doběhla lišku, šibalka...
