In reference to mix-marriages, I see nothing wrong. I belive that as time changes, customs as well the language barries all set in its place with time. I am a latino, living here in Texas, USA and during our marriage (she was japanese) we never did encounter and racial indiferences thru out the states we visit, including the south part of america where dicrimation was very much aganist any one not white. Its not like that now, you see may white girls dating and even married to men of all colors and countries. This is the the year 2004 and I am sure that people from the czech republic can not and are not that backward in this matter. I have some very great friends that come from the czech republic. I plan to visit Prague and hope to meet a young lady and if I fall in love, no wall can stand in the way of love love. Of course you have to change accordinly to each desires customs and traditions. Love can do that. Thanks By the way my wife past away 5 years ago.

    Hi,

I am a black english/jamaican woman who met and married my Cezech husband, when he visitied the USA. He and I now reside in USA. He had no problems in dating me or marrying me. My family is very open to interacial marriage and only wish for us to be happy. His family, well known, Have expressed different ideas. At first they thought it was a passing fancy, but when he announced that he was in love and intended to marry, they presumably "cut him off", occasionally they check in to find out if he is done with me yet. so he can return to the fold. I don't think it is because of my race, but more about my political, financial & culteral connections. Although I have heard his father call me a "gypsy". There are other members of the family, that are in awe of my husbands steadfastness to remain married to me because he loves me. I am dismayed however, that I may never have the opportunity to visit the country and the city where my husband grew up. Unless I go byself , as a tourist. He can never return to live in his country, unless he returns alone. To tell the truth, if I had known, that this would be so difficult( this has caused a great amount of strain on our marriage, as my husband is miserable about the whole thing) I would have not married him. Just consider it " a love lost"

With the new social climate emerging in Czech republic, I had hoped that some Czech people would be more open to the idea of "love first" "materialism" second. I realize now that materialism and capitalism, reign supreme in my In-laws family. as time goes by they may get what they wish. Their prodigal son back.

Yours is a sad story, KK, and I feel symphatetic with your trial. Your in-laws' attitude is shameful. I know of interracial marriages where the Czech parents were at first reluctant but in the end gave in and accepted their child's choice because they wanted him/her happy.

What I don't understand is why you and your husband cannot visit his country independently and both stay in a hotel. Why is it that he can 'never go back'?

You all usually say: it's my life, it's my choice, we love each other, I want to be happy, and so on and forth. And what about your children? Are you sure that they will be happy? If you want to fight against racial prejudices of the society, it's your choice, of course, but you can quit it at any time. You can split up at any time. Even you can change your opinion at any time. But your children will be crossbreeds in all their born days.

Be judicious and don't make unwise social and genetic experiments on your own children!

(I hope that the term "crossbreed" is political correct.)

Don't be ridiculous!! Social and genetic experiments?? Biracial children are no big deal, there are a lot of hapas here in north america and being one of them would be an advantage. They get stared at a lot by people though...because they are generally incredibly good looking. I know of an American biologist whose study showed that children of mixed races are considered to be more attractive and that they're genes are stronger.
Since there are a lot of bi-racial people here, I see for myself that they are above average in looks and exotic. Just look at Kristin Kreuk (Chinese-Dutch), Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Russell Wong, Rosemary Vanderbroucke, Fiona Braidwood. There are some relatives I have who are German-Cambodian, French-Cambodian and they are definately better looking than the average person. I just seems that children of mixed races have a better chance of being incredibly attractive. I don't have any pity on them, they definately are given a big advantage in society, just my two cents.

    O.K.
You want to be a crossbreed in the U.S.A. (maybe you are) and I don't want to be a crossbreed in the C.R. I am happy that my father is an average white Czech and not an exotic African student. Each of us has his own experience.

Why is the idea of being a crossbreed in CZ so detestable. Is CZ still steeped in backwards thinking? It's 2004 for gods sake!! Are people of color or crossbreeding treated differently in your country? persecuted, ignored, unaccepted?

I am aware of the way Gypsys are treated in your country. I have been told that at least one Gypsy is killed, maimed or beaten everyday, just becauxse he is a Gypsy.

Yet you have a black news reporter on one of your tv news stations.

You are entitled to your opinion. But I would hate to think, that if I had a child from my husband, that the child would be made to suffer, merely because he has the blood of a CZ and the blood of a Brtish Black. This child may very well be the person who discovers a new marketing strtegy, or political platform, or develop a agriculteral or mecanical device, that propels CZ into the forefront of european countries. You are telling us that any crossbreed should not be proud of their CZ heritage.

I myself am not a crossbreed, I live in a country, were as a black, merely 50 to 60 years ago. I could be strung up on a tree, just for having darker skin. Albeit, if that had occurred, i would not have grown up to save the lives of those same white, shortsighted people.
I know for a fact, being a crossbreed has it's advantages. (social acceptance, political acceptance, etc)

So tell me, is it better to be black in CZ or a crossbreed in CZ?

As you can see northunder, not for nothing do we haar of racisism still being prevalent in the CR.

Bohaemus, If your dad had been black, would you be of the same opinion? By the way, your ancestors came from Africa.(If it`s not certain, than 99%)

Obviously Bohaemus, has not been as exposed to different cultures, as he may want us to believe. ( i believe this is fairly typical for some cz people, as they don't usually seek enlightment, through exposure or experience with different races or cultures)

I feel sorry for him, when the day comes, and he may very well need the services of those same people, whom he thinks are disadvantaged.

It is difficult to say. If my father had been black, I should certainly have a psychical problem that I am not of the same feather like my mother and my younger half-brother. It has nothing in common with our praehistoric ancestors. Simply, I feel comfortable that I am of the same race like my closest relations.

Btw, as a tax payer I am permanently exposed to the Romany (Gypsy) parasitic culture. :x

    My two eurocents.

I don't know anyone who can stand up and say they are 100% sure to be a "pure" so-and-so race, because what we see in the mirror is only "cosmetic".

In the middle ages central europe was invaded by the followers of Alah, before that by Tatars. Byproduct of any invation is rape. Majority of todays counties were at one time of their past invaded by someone of a diferent race.

What I'm trying to say is, yes I'm white, when I look in the mirror I see blonde hair and green eyes, but am I really? There is no way for most of us to know and even genetic test are usually inconclusive.
Therefore I find people who judge others by color of their skin to be extremely shalow.

We are all same on the inside and should messure others by how they live their lives not by something they had no control over.
When I fell in love with my husband it was not because he happend to be white also, but because of what kind of person he is and I belive I would love him the same has he been green with antenas on his head:p

And as for my opinion on the actual topic, I say no matter where you go you will always find shallow people who are unable to "think outside the box" but most people in these days are very openminded and know this is 21st. century and not middle ages.

    Petronela,

your very nice paper could begin with "I have a dream". MLK would exult over it. Now wake up and buy a TV set. You will see that the world is not so idyllic in the 21st century. Btw, many nations are living in the 15th century (exactly 1425). These numbers mean nothing at all.

    Have a nice day.

boy this has started a heated debate. Yes it is always best to be comfortable with the skin your in. but we must always remember not to presume that the same skin be it white, black or polka dot. is better than any other. It just works for you.

    On to another subject please!

    Some proverbs in the end:

Czech: Vrána k vráně sedá, rovný rovného si hledá. (Birds of a feather flock together. - roughly)

Latin: Audi, vide, tace, si vis vivere in pace. (Listen, look, and keep quiet, if you wish to live in peace.)

    Bohaemus,

You`re a racist who`s been living in a cave since birth. (the idols of a cave)

First, you`ve never dated any other person than a Czech one. Second, you`ve never lived among non-white people, otherwise you wouldn`t have called them exotic. Third, your thoughts based on your little experience are as deep as a puddle.

If your prehistoric ancestors had NOTHING in common with you, they wouldn`t be your ancestors.

These numbers mean NOTHING at all. The same howler. Of course they mean SOMETHING.

It`s common knowledge that when we talk about the Middle Ages, it is in reference to the Christian calendar. Just as we know what we mean by the Far East. (I live in Japan and the Middle East is further for me than the Far East, but we understand where the Far East`s whereabouts are)

Bohaemus, you can rest assured that Americans DO have TV sets, DO live in the 21st century, and DO have a heck of a lot of experience with all races. You`re like a little poor boy preaching at the rich how great it is to be poor.

If you think that with a good many Latin proverbs at your fingertips you can make yourself elavated, you live in a make-believe world. First, proverbs can hardly ever be taken to the T. Second, how we are supposed to interpret them, that`s is the question. Third, there`s almost always one proverb giving a message which is contrary to the other.

    1) Answer a fool according to his folly,
Lest he be wise in his own conceit.
    2) Answer not a fool according to his folly,
Lest thou also be like unto him.

    3) Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
    4) Out of sight, out of mind.

As to your crow proverb in Czech, a blockhead will always sit next to another blockhead.

Yes. Martin Luther King had a dream, which has been realized. As is typical of all pioneers.

First - excuse me that I disturbed your idyllic discussion.

    One more Czech proverb:
Mnoho psů, zajícova smrt. (roughly - One hare has no chance against many dogs.)

Second - some howlers of others:

Northunder: "It's 2004 for gods sake!"

Someone could say: "It's 1425, for Allah's sake!". It is a meaningless phrase, no cogent argument. Those numbers really mean nothing in a discussion.

Hockeygirl: "I know of an American biologist whose study showed that children of mixed races are considered to be more attractive and that they're genes are stronger." (... their genes...)

Any links? What do the "stronger genes" mean? Isn't it a racism?

Another pearl from Hockeygirl: "I just seems that children of mixed races have a better chance of being incredibly attractive." (perhaps It just seems...?)

Try to write: "It seems that white children have a better chance of being incredibly attractive".
    You will be lapidated.

    I could continue.

Third - Karel, you live in Japan. The Japanese society is surely open to immigrants of various races  . You have omitted to mention it  .

    Howgh!

Bohaemus, you can sit there and mock me all you want, however it will not change the fact then I am an individual and therefore have the prerogative to form my own opinion and not "flock" with anyone.

But I would suggest you turn off your television one in a while and actually go out and meet the real people, you will find that the "good" happening in the world outweighs the "bad".

You see, the reporter's paycheck depends on the rating of their station and the "good" stories just don't make for fascinating headlines.
Can't really blame them, they are people too and have bills to pay, so they focus on what "sells".

WHOA! i responded to this post awhile back and just checked back on it...this has gotten into some debate! Being in an interracial relationship its so amazing to me how HEATED this topic can be. I have been living with my boyfriend of almost 4 years pretty much from day one but was reluctant to tell my parents because i knew they would not be accepting (i am white, he is black) and i was right! my father has not spoken to me in almost 9 mths since i told him and its so sad that the people you love the most will give you the most slack about this issue. They love you until you bring home one of those people from another race! I have friends who are "mixed" and they are beautiful so in the end i would just say "hey, look who is really winning?" .....people are afraid of the unknown....but i laugh at all the people who have their head in the sand or perhaps somewhere else!
