i heard that listening to music of the language you want to learn helps with pronounciation. so i am wondering if any of you could give me some names of bands or singers from the czech republic. thx alot!
Nohavica is the best, well to listen to anyway. I've heard his Czech has a moravian slang to it so it's probably not the best for learning the language.
Slang is one of the things that make Nohavica special Personally, I'd recommend Aneta Langerova, in many ways she's really easy to listen to. And Zuzana Navarova (when she's not singing in Spanish...) Good luck!
Very interesting. How do you rate Michal Prokop's songs. chinchilla? He's my favourite. We've been to see him and Framus Five several times. Jan Hrubý is a magician and we regularly go to see Luboš Andršt with his own group, at Agharta. My partner, Tony, has reviewed them on his blog at www.praguejazz@blogspot.com (Incidentally, LA is 60 on Saturday, if anyone's interested!) I particularly love Karlův most and Kolej. I can make out some of the words but do you have any idea where I could find them written down?
Hello, you can find the lyrics here http://www.diskografie.cz/prokop-michal/ I quite like Michal Prokop, although to be honest I'm not very familiar with Czech music (blush) I have my PC full of Latin/Arab/Chinese/Taiwanese songs instead... By the way, have you seen this? You might like it, and they are a Czech classic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1jHhTR48IY
cannot agree on m.david, i prefer fousatej hat a lil bit more But bob a bobek, especialy posted old series, are flawless. typos everywhere..
I don't agree with this 8) Nohavica sings most of his songs in very good Czech (much better than Prague Czech), in no case is it "moravian slang". He sings also in Ostrava dialect, e.g. Fotbal, Až to se mnu sekne, Milionař and others, he uses also mix of dialect and standard Czech to differentiate as in "Ladovská zima".
Well I won't argue with you since I don't know. I'm just going off what someone told me. Actually, I'm pretty positive it was someone from this site. Maybe eso or wer.
The laptop's running too slowly to watch this tonight but thanks so much for the lyrics - that's wonderful!
Not me! Maybe I said it about one particular song, but definitely not about the whole reportoire of Nohavica. He has songs in literal Czech, in colloquial Czech, in several dialects from Czech-Polish border area, in Polish, in Slovak, in Russian... You can always ask here what's the language of the given song.
How can you be Czech and not have heard of Michal Prokop?! Granted he's probably older than your father but he's been famous for as long as Karel Gott except he's a hundred times cooler! He was an MP after 1989 - I think he was even deputy culture minister - but now he just rocks and has a TV chat show. His band, Framus 5, are brilliant. Jan Hrubý plays the electric violin like a demon and according to my Czech teacher, Luboš Andršt is one of the best guitarists in the country. His own band, the Luboš Andršt Group regularly plays at Agharta in town, with the owner and inspiration of Agharta, Michal Hejna, on drums. Tony and I usually go and if you, or indeed any of our Prague-based pals, would like to come along with us, you'd be more than welcome. I've put some links here - enjoy! www.michalprokop.cz www.last.fm/music/Michal+Prokop www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK0KuPiAiOk www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBYd9B4rBNo
