I am looking for translations of the following writings by Karel Čapek: Básník Malé a velké Malí národové Naši hosté a my O lyrickém zloději O tom humoru Pohádka o psím ocásku Can anyone suggest where I may find them. I am struggling to improve my Czech and I managed to get an audio recording of these stories. I think it may help me if I also had the translations; even of some of them. Regards
Hi Padraig, have you tried typing the titles in the czech search engine www.seznam.cz? sometimes that can lead to an on-line version of the text,if all else fails. good luck!
Thank you for your response,Laylah I can find quite a lot on Google on Capek himself but little on the texts. I'll certainly give it a go and let you know if I have any success. I have been stuttering along trying to translate, slow, but I'm beginning to make some sense of some of them. Padraig
Hi again Padraig, I just tried seznam, but didn't turn up any english translations unfortunately - but you can listen along with the text (and sometimes do excercises based on the text) at http://www.language.brown.edu/CZH/texts.html - if I stumble across the translations, I'll get back to you
Thanks again, laylah. Yes I have been listening to the tales and following the text, I certainly find it very useful in familiarising myself with stress patterns and intonation etc..However, I am making some attempt at a translation but as I said it is slow work. But I'll persevere. If I have any success I'll let you know. Padraig
I must thank you for this as well! One of my classes made me a Christmas present of one of these books I must dig it up and re-read it with the audio! I'm afraid I don't have any translations except hand written notes on photocopies.. which are probably all completely wrong and worthless to you!
