I have recently discovered I am fourth generation Czech living in US (with a mix of many other things too)...but that is about all I know. I want to know more about what it means to be Czech, what my heritage is, but don't really know where or how to begin.

It sounds funny, but do I look Czech? Are there characteristics? What are the cultures and beliefs? The music, the food, the people...I'm hungry for knowledge on this newly discovered heritage of mine.

Please, post back or email me - I want to know more! :D

The easiest way to learn about any country is in your local library. Look in the Travel and European History sections. Ask a librarian, they are there to help you. Also browse this website for a while, you'll learn a lot.

    Best regards,

    Eva

Thank you for replying...and so quick too! :D
I have read some, but was hoping to get some insight from other Czechs too. I am a student in the University here, therefore have access to a great number of books on the subject. I hope to get into that library today.
I'd love to have an e-pen pal - preferably a female, around age 30's or so. If interested, please respond.

    Thank you so much!

    Hello-

It appears that I will be moving/living to the Czech Republic in November. I am travelling back with my boyfriend who is from Liberec. I looked on the web for some information about this area. There is not much out there! Can someone give me an idea of how far it is from Prague? Is it a commutable distance if I chose to study in Prague? Are there any locals that can give me a description of what this area is like? Will I have trouble living here if I only speak English? And lastly- does anyone know of a area I could take Czech language lessons in the area?
