Hello. Next beginning of april my first time in Prague with my husband, my daughter - 7 years old - and the dog. Hotel Union Prague. Can you help me in finding: attraction ok for children, rules to follow with the dog, transport (tram, metro) to the city center close to the hotel (I don't want to use the car), a good restaurant close to the hotel for the evening meal, where to buy the tourist card that allows free transport and museums (better the 3 days ticket ??). And what about weather at that time ? Very cold ? I thank you very much for any other suggestion.

I don't mean to sound rude, but you need to buy a travel guide or use your internet resources. Everything your asking for is very easy to find and research. You still have two months to do your research!

Hi Barbara and welcome to the boards! I'll try to answer some of your questions. By the way, it would have been better to post your different questions as separate topics. Keeping topics focused helps everyone on the boards, including the poster.

Tips on what to do with children

Try the Prague for Kids page on this very site.

Rules to follow with the dog

    - The dog should be on a leash at all times, unless you find yourselves in a park that allows to let your dog off the leash. The park (such as Riegrovy sady) would have rules posted at each entrance, specifying the area(s) where it's ok to let your dog run around. The dog must always be under your control though, i.e. respond to your verbal commands.

    - It is required by law to pick up after your dog in all public areas including public greenery (grass areas) in parks, even though you'll find out for yourselves that the majority of Prague residents don't care about this law or good manners for that matter and don't show any respect to their fellow residents, leaving huge piles of their dogs' stuff in the middle of sidewalks and all over parks.

    - If taking your dog on a tram or the metro, the dog must be wearing a muzzle and must be on a leash. You have to buy a 6 Kč ticket for the dog each time you use the public transport, unless the dog is in an enclosed container, in which case there's no fee. The ticket is the same as the transfer ticket for children 6-15 years old - see the Public Transportation Tickets, Fares and Schedules page on this site.

To get to the center from the Hotel Union on Ostrčilovo náměstí

If I'm not mistaken, you can take trams 7, 9 and 18, and night trams 53 and 55 from the "Ostrčilovo náměstí" stop. Tram 7 doesn't get you to the center directly, you have to get off at Anděl and continue by the metro to Národní třída. Tram 9 will get you to the National Theatre and tram 18 (the most convenient one) will get you to Národní třída - Národní divadlo (National Theatre) - Staroměstská (near Old Town Square) - Malostranská (to continue up to the Prague Castle). The hotel should be able to confirm this and give you directions if necessary.

    Weather

It is impossible to predict the weather in the Czech Republic in general, let alone for April. It can be cold, very cold, rainy, snowy, windy, sunny, pleasant... You should check the weather forecast close to your departure date. The weather can change quickly in April. For more info, visit the Czech Republic Weather page on this site.

I hope you have a good trip!
