After and during American/Vietnamese War Vietnamese were actually allowed by communist government to come and work in Czechoslovakia as friendly gesture to other communist country and gesture against American War (In Vietnam people call Vietnam War "American War"). After 1990 many Vietnamies remained as private enterprise was allowed and they started to do business: i.e. markets, restaurants etc. More Vietnamese moved to Czech Republic since.

Since then, they had children and there are many Czech/Vietnamese children now who speak perfect Czech. I am sure that there is Vietnamese Association as they want to keep their traditions live for their children and have the opportunity to meet others.

Search on internet for such a groups in Cs.

By-the-way, I travelled Vietnam and Thailand for two months and was simply delighted by all beautiful places and even more beautiful and kind people. Good luck.

I am sure you'll find here another Thai people. For instance - there are couple of Thai restaurants in Praha with Thai crew. A lot of tea rooms are spread throw the city...
I don't know when you will arrive, but be ready for cooler weather (or really cold weather during winter months). People from south sometimes has problem with periods without sun (low level cloudiness) day by day (sometimes in December even 2 weeks or more - awfull weather).
If you any need a help later, contact me after arriving at progenies@progenies.info.
    Regards.

I know that there is a lot of viet people in CR. Whats weird is when I went to school there I dont remember seeing any viet kids. I asked my sister and she doesnt either. Does anyone know if they have theyre own schools? Sorry this is stupid I know.

Actually, many of them were sent to CR against their will, for so-called "re-education", namely those who refused to identify themselves with the communist regime. In 80ยด I used to have a lot of Vietnamese friends who had graduated from French or British universities and then not only they had to work in ironworks in Olomouc as the worst paid workers, but a part of their income went directly to the Vietnamese government.

to Carmilie - Probably not stay at places, where Vietnamese lived. Their kid attend ordinary Czech schools, but becouse they collect themselves at certain regions, the kids are dominantly there.

You are probably right. I just thought it was odd because I went to zakladni skola in Ceske Budejovice, Cesky Krumlov a Praha and there was never a single vietnamese kid.
