What are the normal work hours and are stores open on the weekends?

Work hours for workers 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, office staff 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Most stores are open 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM (with a noon break), supermarkets every day 7:00 - 8, 10 or 12 PM, some 24/7. All stores are open on Saturday mornings (8-12).

On Saturday, supermarkets are usually open till afternoon (say 2 pm, some even longer), while most other stores close at 11 or 12, as Jana said.
"Food-stores" and supermarkets usually open on Sundays for a short time in the morning (i.e. 9 - 12 am).

How come the business hours start so early in Czech? In America, Businesses open at 9am. What is a person to do when they get up so early?

Czech people prefer getting out of work early, even if it means getting up early as well. Just go and get over with it  and have more time free in the afternoon. I guess it is a kind of tradition, too.

thats cool. I like that way of thinking. At least, you have some sunlight to go for a walk or play sports.
