    Hi to all,
Just thought I'd let you non-oceanian people know that today (April 25) marks the 80th anniversary of the ANZAC gallipoli landings. For those of you who don't know, ANZAC day is when most Aussies and Kiwis feel proud and reflect on their national identity, for the Gallipoli landings was the first major war Australia and NZ fought in, not under the flag of the British. Many lives were lost fighting for the freedom of our country in this terrible period of time. The actions of the ANZAC's really highlights our sense of national identity and will continue to for years to come.
    Lest we forget...

It is celebrated in Canada as well because a New Foundland regiment fought with the Aussies.

I didn't realise that, is it a public holiday?

Maybe just in Eastern Canada, I've never heard of it before and I'm on in the west.

Sorry, you misunderstood. It is not a public holiday in Canada. There was a military ceremony in honor of the regiment to mark the 80th anniversary. I saw it on TV news.
