    mozna tato skutecnost k tobe neprobublala

    literal word for word translation: perhaps this fact, to you, did not bubble

    contextual translation (maybe) perhaps this fact didn't get to you NEBO perhaps you were kept out of the loop

    Anyways.. my question is this: Does neprobublala in fact derive from the verb bublat- to bubble??

    Can anybody think of any other examples of how to use this verb in a sentence? thanks in advance for y'alls help

    bublati - to bubble (imperf.)
    probublat - to bubble through (perf.)
    probublávat - to bubble through (imperf.)

    Možná tato skutečnost k tobě neprobublala.
    Perhaps this fact has not bubbled through the environment to you.

    It is a metaphore (the fact is passing through the environment like a bubble of a gas).

    A similar metaphore:

    vyšumět - to foam up, to effervesce

    Tento případ (zájem, spor) vyšuměl.
    This case (concern, feud) has effervesced off.

    The abstract things act like a liquid or a gas in such metaphores.

    Žačíná mi trochu naštvat, že český jazyk jeste k mně neprobublává. :D :shock:

    Kdy přeletěli nad Českou Repulikou čapy? Slyšel jsem něco o tom davno.
    Mají oblíbené města, které mají radi navštěvovat každý rok, jak cestujou na podzim k Africe a na jaře od Afriky, že ano?.
    Myslím si, že jsem se na televizi jednou podíval něco o tom.
    Pamatuju si obrazy čapů na střechach.
    Jak jsem řekl, bylo to davno. :D

    Thanks
    Interesting about the storks.
    I like studying migrations of birds. It was one of my very first inerests, but I did pursue that field of study.
    Čapi zustává celé leto v Českem Republice.
    A když přicháze čas, když se zas vratí do Afriky, požad odlétají v malách
    rodinnách skupinách, ne v velkéch staléch.

    Birds fly in flocks:
    The only time I have heard the word bevy is when referring to quails.

    Maybe this is my problem=proper use of these verbs
    koukat=to look
    vidět=to see
    dívat se=to watch

    Vidím, že se zrovna ted díváš na televizi.

    Tři ´´typos´´´typing errors in previous letter. Two of them in English.
    :oops:
    and I meant I did not pursue that field.

    Ptaky létají zasadně ve stejnech během stěhování, ale misto toho lidé každy rok v České Repulice pozorujou jak čapi se na podzim vratí k jihu do Afriky, stejny jak dělali už tisicy možna miliony leta, odlétajie v malých rodinných skupinách.
    Tady kde bydlím já, kazdý rok se v listopadu vratí supy.
    Velký černý ptaky, ktery vzlétají višši v oblaže ve velkých kruzech.

    živý = (a)live
    životný = animate

    In Czech, the nouns and adjectives are strictly separated. We can't use the same word for noun and adjective like in English. For that reason, we use periphrasis to express such nouns.

    masculine (adj.) = mužský
    masculine (noun; standing for the masculine gender) = mužský rod
    It's grammatically correct, but the old good-looking ostrich is a weird fantasy :D.
    The verb scházet se is cognate to chodit (=walk), i.e. literaly it's to go (walk) together.
    The appropriate verb for birds is slétávat se (=fly together; cognate to létat). On the other hand, vultures walking together is another weird fantasy :D.

    The Czech word číslo means number, but not in the meaning count. Use počet.

    No, this is standard Czech.

    sem k nám = hither to us
    Sem k nám přijde Petra. = Petra will come hither to us.

    Alenastef,

    Just an English lesson: We say either ... or rather than or ... or. So the correct phrase is "Either hejno or stádo."

    Maybe not so weird in light of the 2002 Ig-Nobel prize for Biology: http://www.improbable.com/ig/ig-pastwinners.html#ig2002.

    One question, not much about language....

    I thought, in my very simplified way, that it was:

    vultures - in Africa
    condors - in America

    But scrimshaw is from Florida... Can I have some ornithological explanation?

    From Wikipedia:

    Vultures fall into two groups. The Old World vultures found in Africa, Asia and Europe belong to the family Accipitridae, which also includes eagles, kites, buzzards and hawks. They find carcasses exclusively by sight.

    New World vultures and condors are not at all closely related to the superficially similar Accipitridae, but belong in the family Cathartidae, which is quite close to the storks. Several species have a good sense of smell, unusual for raptors.

    ___

    As Czech, i see "sup" as scary birds, who feast on corpses.
    Condor is "kondor" in Czech.

    But maybe condor too feasts on dead people?

    Nevím jestli máme podobné prohližec, tak vám tuhle stranku pošlu.

    Kondory v California jsou vzáčné.
    Myslím si, že jsou moc větší než supi na floridě.

    Zdá se mi, že lidé tady na foru jsou jako vědci.
