    Bohemia during 1830
Not long ago, www.mojekniha.cz conducted a survey on what the Czechs
consider No.1 book most beloved of all.
As No. 1 came Bozena Nemcova "BABICKA"
    "GRANDMOTHER."
Although it is a highly stylized book of fiction, it paints a vivid
picture of Czech, mostly rural life, under Austria-Hungary
(Bohemia was, at that time, one of the nations that comprised
this European empire at that time.)
I am sure "GRANDMOTHER" in English translation can be
found by going through Amazon or similar sights.
    Good luck! :)

Related reading, where you may start your research:
    Articles and studies:

Odlozilik, Otakar: "The Czechs on the Eve of the 1848 Revolution"
    (Harvard Slavic Stdies, 1953)

Cizevskij, Dmitrij:"Comparative History of Slavic Literatures"
    (Vanderbilt Univ.Press 1971, Chapter "Romanticism",
    Czechs - Macha-Erben-Nemcova)
Macha, Erben a Nemcova lived within the span 1810-1870,
and their biographies give a good picture of "Bohemian life"
    during that era.
Also helpful might be the book by
Wellek, Rene : "Essays on Czech Literature", where you will find
a long essay "Macha and English Literature."
    Rather long, but also interesting...:)

And since we are on the subject,
    "Babicka" has been filmed twice.
First version came either before or during the WWI,
and the main heroine ('Barunka") wasplayed by
    Natasa Tanska.
Second movie made of the book came during 60s or 70s,
"Barunka" was played by Libuse Safrankova.
Both films are worth seeing for anyone interested in Czech
    culture.
