Hello all. I am also wondering about the origin of the Sternberk/Sternberg Star as it is known in heraldry. It is the star that appears on the coat of arms of the city of Zlin. Thanks in advance!
Well, Sternbergs (Šternberkové) were significant aristocratic family (first imformation about them is from 12th century). Their crest: Star on their crest is reference to family name, because "Stern" means star in German. They had two castles: Český Šternberk near Benešov - http://www.zamky-hrady.cz/2/cesky_sternberk-e.htm and Šternberk castle near Olomouc - http://www.sternberk.cz/eng/omeste/hrad.phtml City of Zlín has Sternberg star in crest probably because Sternbergs own local manor from 1358-1392 Sources (in Czech): http://pamatky.xf.cz/Zlin/Zamek/historie.htm http://www.lukov.cz/hrad/erb9.htm
Once again - THANK YOU! It would appear that "...one of the most significant Sternberks was the scientist-botanist Casper Maria Sternberg founder of the Czech National Museum...) Caspar... Kaspar ? ::laughing::  The coat of arms did not come through can you give me a link please? Thanks! Rick
