Greetings, I am new to this message board. My mother's family live in the Bryan area of Texas. I know little of the family other than spoken stories. My family are supposed to be Moravian. They are Hudec, Merka, and Regmund. Can anyone tell me if those are indeed Moravian names? Thank you, Bill in Fort Worth, Texas
Hudec is a fairly common czech family name (not unique to moravia). According to http://mujweb.cz/www/mnich/ there is one family of name Merka and one of name Měrka, both from the Vsetín district, eastern moravia. i'm not sure about regmund - either it's a misspelling or it's of german/austrian (possibly jewish?) origin, but i'm not sure about that either.
