I think I chose an inappropriate verb in that sentence.
    I should have said...
Vždyt se Glenn nějak podařil zakopnout do Klubu aniž se ztratil.
Glenn managed somehow to stumble into(find) the Klub without getting lost.

Pěkný oříšek pro mne: jak přeložit "stumble into"
nice "nut" for me: how to translate "stumble into"

    The dictionaries don't help much.
    I would translate it
    "octnout se", "trefit"
    maybe
    "zapadnout"
    "vpadnout"
    Any ideas?

"Vždyť se Glennovi nějak podařilo trefit do Klubu aniž se ztratil"

    stumble (verb)
    1) zakopnout, klopýtnout za/škobrtnout, brknout; škobrtat, nejistě jít/projít/pokračovat
    2) narazit, vrazit při klopýtnutí/aby klopýtl
    3) udělat chybu,spáchat poklesek, klopýtnout
    4) uvíznout, ztroskotat
    5) zadrhávat při řeči, koktat, zakoktávat se, breptat
    6) náhodou narazit, klopýtnout, zakopnout
    7) náhodou, nechtěně spadnout, dostat se
    8) mást, zarážet

"Vždyť se Glennovi nějak podařilo dostat do Klubu aniž se ztratil"
but it looses its expressive power in this case

Stumble into...can, I would say, have two meanings.

First...trip over something(step, crack) and try to catch your balance while entering someplace.
    second....find accidently, najít náhodou

    Tak....
Opilec zakopl do hospodě, sedl si, a objednal si pivo.
    nebo
and this probably does not translate so well.

Hledal jsem Janina obchod na náměstí a cestou jsem (maybe..(si)(to show good fortune) zakopl do obchodu, který prodává ty dálkové ovládání letadly, který jsem hledal minulý týden.

Yes, Karel. That was very useful, although in some ways deeply depressing. It's a good job that Czechs are so understanding of anyone trying to speak their language otherwise I'd give up now!

I would just warn about "Miminko přišlo na svět...came into the world....we use that also." Yes, we do use it but not in normal narrative like this, it's more literary/poetic that "was born". For example, I can imagine a book opening with: "It was a dark, stormy night in the year 1775 when our hero came into the world." Similarly, we wouldn't normally say "in the year" in the same way as "v roce" in Czech.

And apologies, everyone, for the delayed acknowledgement; I'm having internet connection problems again. It's fine having a free connection, courtesy of Prague 8 Council - when it works!

"Zakopl do" is quite strange for me.
usualy its used only as "zakopnout o něco" e.g. "Zakopl jsem o kořen a upadl"
or "Zakopnout něco někam" as in "Zakopl jsem (si) pantofle pod postel"
you can use it(o něco/někoho) to expres accidental meeting/discovery but i wouldnt use it with hospoda..

Aha, myslím si, že to chápu.
Vědec se snažil změnit stříbro do zlata a zakopl si o to, jak se tvoří železo.
Cestou do patentového úřadu zakopl o jeho soupeř, kdo právě odešel s patentem, který si hledal, v rukou.

Jak kopýtám o kořen a vidím blížíci se země, si myslím, tohle mě bude bolet.

You don't need to be depressed, your version was really very good. 8)
We use "narodil se" more frequently, too. But in this case i used the more poetic version because it was about very small child 8)
I wouldn't use it in my CV given to my employer 8)
