What's the difference between "vystřihnout < vystřihovat" and "vystřihat < vystřihávat"? May be the question should be on the difference between "střihnout" and "střihat" because I can see that the difference pops up with different prefixes. Is vystřihnout / střihnout one time action, while vystřihat / střihat is multiple action?
The basic verbs from the root -střih-: 1st class: střihu (stříci < střih-ti) - imperf. 2nd class: střihnu (střihnouti) - perf. 5th class: stříhám (stříhati) - imperf. 6th class: -střihuji (-střihovati) - imperf. - only with prefixes střihu is rather archaic, it has been replaced by stříhám, both are imperfective iterative, the corresponding prefixed verbs (vystříhám, ostříhám) are perfective (and iterative). E.g. Zítra to křoví vystříhám. Hned vás ostříhám. střihnu is one time action perfective verb, the same for vystřihnu, zastřihnu, ustřihnu, etc. E.g. Tady to střihnu (general). Tady to vystřihnu/zastřihnu/ustřihnu/obstřihnu (more specific). Zítra si ten článek vystřihnu. If you need an imperfective prefixed verb of the střih family, use -střihuji: vystřihuji, zastřihuji, obstřihuji, etc. (similar to stříhám, but with prefix) stříhávám is a frequentative of stříhám (vystříhávám is prefixed frequentative) -střihovávám is a frequentative of -střihuji (vystřihovávám is a frequentative of vystřihuji) The frequentative verbs are imperfective. Strihat/strihnout/-strihovat Striham ted krovi. Strihnu zitra mozna pozitri krovi. vystruji krovi aspon jednou kazdy mesic. Pochopil jsem to? Tyhle veci nejsou prave snadny, ale to je jeden z duvodu proc(ze?) se ucim vas jazyk. Je to opravdu takova vyzva. :wink:
I had to look up eschew in the dictionary. Stydim se rosku za to. Privedu do rozpaku. Ne, to neni pravda(asi jen kus) Je to slovo, ze se nepouziva moc. Budu se to snazit pouzivat v vete. Vystriham se nich, protoze vim, ze jsou zle lidi.

Ajike Tohle je dulezity. Porad se mi plou takove vety. Napsal jsi Zitra nebo pozitri to krovi ostriham. V tuhle vetu. co znamena "to"? Does it mean "it" or "the"? Sometimes the word To" appears in a sentence and I'm not sure of it's purpose. I'm missing something. Thanks
It is another verb. You must distinguish between: střihu, inf. stříci = to cut, to scissor (hence: střižen, stříhati, ...) and střehu, inf. stříci = to keep watch (hence: střežen, střežiti, ...) Both verbs have accidentally the same infinitive (stříci) and some derivatives (vystříhati, ostříhati), but the most forms are different. Střehu se zlých lidí. Střez se psa! (Cave canem!)
