My mother's family came to Canada from Kladno (I think!) in the early 20th century - around 1913. The family's name was Bunda. Any information anyone may have about the Bunda name, its history, or where I could find people who bear this name, would be valuable to me.

    Thank you!

I know only one Bunda - Al Bunda from 'Married... with Children' :D .

Word 'Bunda' in Czech (and German and Slovak and ...) means windcheater, windbreaker, anorak and things like that. I think it originated in Hungarian - typical Hungarian colourfully embroidered coat made of sheepskin is cold bunda.

Female form of this name is 'Bundová'.

    In Czech republic there's 146 people with name Bunda ( see http://www.mvcr.cz/statistiky/jmena/muzi_p/06.html ) and 171 with name Bundová ( http://www.mvcr.cz/statistiky/jmena/zeny_p/05.html ).

You can find some people with this name in phone directory http://phone.quick.cz/index.php . Unfortunately it is only in Czech. Just fill 'Bunda' in 'Příjmení' (= surname). You must also specify 'tel. obvod' (= phone district) - I recommend 'Plzeňský'. And then click on 'vyhledat' (=find).
