OK, I know that tourists are everywhere in Prague, but can anyone recommend things to see and do in the city away from the main tourist crowds (e.g. Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Castle)? I've been there a couple of times and have seen the main sites, so am looking for things to see and do that are less busy (hopefully!) but still interesting.

    All suggestions welcome! :)

Try a boat trip up the Vltava to the Zoo - I had a really great time there.

info on the boat trip (Czech only):

    it says (basically):

From May to October, you can travel to the zoo on the Vltava river.
    Parníky odplouvají:

at 9.30 am, 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm
and May 1 to June 30 also at 8.30 pm

Troja back to the dock at Rašínovo
May 1 to October 17 (2006) daily, March 25 to April 30 and October 18 to November 29 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays
at 11.00 am, 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm

    The trip takes 75 minutes.
one way 100Kc adults, -, children 3-12 years, 60Kc, -, children under 3 years free of charge

My wife and love Troja too. So if you're fed up of the animals, wander into the gardens at Troja, just opposite the zoo entrance.

The interior is an art gallery (or it was when we visited before the floods) but the ceiling paintings etc are wonderful and well worth the price of admission.

I agree - spent some time at Troja before I went into the Zoo - very nice

Whilst at Troja Chateau and the Zoo it would be foolish not to visit The Botanical Gardens (Botanicka Zahrada), vineyard and Greenhouse (Fata Morgana) which are only a few minutes walk further up the hill (fully sign posted) :)

Excellent. Thanks for the links! I've bookmarked them. Troja looks nice and the botanic garden sounds a great idea too.

Does anyone know whether there are any good tour companies in Prague which do more specialist walking tours, maybe even personalised tours?

I'd heard about the tours in New York that are given by natives of the city (Big Apple Greeter) and wondered if anyone knew of anything similar in Prague.
