Time for Burčák!

The Czech wine harvest usually begins at the end of August and September is the month for celebrations (vinobraní). Large festivals take place in the main Czech wine growing regions in southern Moravia (Mikulov and Znojmo) and north of Prague (Mělník). Celebrations can also be found in Prague and other places throughout the country. Burčák, young Czech wine, is an integral part of the events. It is a sweet, cloudy and slightly bubbly drink. It goes down easy at around 5% alcohol, but be careful as it continues to ferment after it has been imbibed! If you drink a lot, be ready for a kick.
