Prague With Children

If you are staying in Prague with your children and are not sure how to keep them entertained, below are a few activities that may do the trick.

Parks and Playgrounds

Prague has many parks and there is always a peaceful place nearby to escape the crowds and noise of the city. Read about Petřín Hill, the islands on the Vltava River, and other popular Prague parks. Many parks include children’s playgrounds.

Boat Rides and Pedal Boats

You can take your kids on a boat ride or a pedal boat on the Vltava. A fun activity that can fill your day is to take the boat to or from the Prague Zoo.

Prague Zoo

The Prague Zoo is one of the best zoological gardens in the world. Besides seeing the animals, children will enjoy the play areas that are scattered through the park, a petting zoo, a viewing train, and older kids will like the short chair-lift that connects the lower and upper levels of the zoo.

DinoPark

The Prague DinoPark is a fun, educational amusement park filled with life-sized models of dinosaurs. Some of them move and roar to make the experience of facing these giants even more lifelike. A short 4-D film is shown throughout the day and a playground is available for little kids.

Hamleys

Hamleys is a large British toy store and its Prague location is one of the biggest in Europe. What makes Hamleys especially fun are its in-house attractions, such as a tunnel slide, carousel, mirror maze, and butterfly house. One of the most popular attractions is the virtual reality area in the basement.

Sea World

The Prague Sea World houses the largest seawater tank in the Czech Republic. It is home to the aquarium’s three species of shark and other fish. The freshwater pool holds fish from South America and a few species of turtles. One of Europe’s largest manually created murals can also be seen inside the Prague Sea World.

Toy Museum

The Prague Toy Museum is the second largest exposition of toys in the world and the largest private toy collection worldwide. You can see toys from ancient Greece to the present, collected from all over the world. The museum covers two floors and includes a large Barbie exposition.

Historic Tram no. 41

The Historic Tram runs on weekends and holidays from April through mid-November. It leaves from Vozovna Střešovice every hour from 12:00 noon until 5:30 p.m. and continues through the city center.

Puppet Shows

Some Prague puppet and marionette theatres that show plays for children are the Marionette Kingdom, Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre, and Puppet Theatre Jiskra. There are also quite a few marionette shops around Prague’s city center where you can buy some beautiful puppets and marionettes.

Movies

There are several large multiplexes in the Prague city center or close enough to it and they usually feature some films suited for children. There is also an IMAX theatre in Prague.
